I wanted to breed pedigree cats for many many years but found it was a very closed community and clicky.
I met a wonderful couple of Abyssinians Cat Breeders and I immediately fell in love with this breed. They were breeding different colours of Abyssinians but the Silvers really caught my eye.
I read up on the breed health and personality and KNEW this was the breed for me.
Whats consolidated it was a few things happening at the same time. I had warm and friendly support from Val Andrews and Zahra Grigilato (both well respected breeders in the Abyssinian and GCCF community). There were 2 silver females available on an active register. Finally, what REALLY motivated me was finding out the following information.
Approx 140 GCCF registered Abyssinians (any colour type) are being registered annually. Compare this to the most popular breed British Shorthair of approx 10,000. (GCCF ANALYSIS 2022)
If we do not sustain our English types of Abyssinians then we are in danger of losing the English type (as compared to European and US types – which have slightly different features) .
If we do not sustain and promote the Abyssinian population here in the UK we are in danger of losing lines that have been going for an extremely long period. Abyssinians are a very very old breed. The Abyssinian Cat Club is coming up to its centenary (2029) and is one of the founding members of the GCCF . First records of Abyssinians in the UK which very likely included Silvers go back to 1868. A breeder called Mrs Carew-Cox exported her silvers to the US in 1907 and these are thought to be the first silvers in the US.
The plight of the UK Abyssinian has happened before. Sadly WW1 not only caused the club to disband, many of the breeders did not return from the war. The UK was left with about a dozen UK Abyssinians and it was the hard work of about a dozen female enthusiasts that got the population into a healthy sustainable level again.
When you think that the Old English Sheepdog had less than 300 puppies registered with the Kennel Club and was declared a VULNERABLE breed- it helped its resurgence. Happily the OES is now off the Vulnerable Native List Breeds. (Kennel Club 2022)
Come on Feline Fans- Lets try and do the same for our British Type Abyssinians!
Yes- we have kittens available as part of our breeding plans because we simply cannot keep them all!
If you have never had a pedigree kitten before then I suggest you read this useful guide from the GCCF. Its a checklist.
Additionally, the International Cat Care website is a really good resource that may answer many of your questions from kitten to adulthood. They can be found here .
Our kittens are raised in the home and have access to an enclosed garden with enrichment such as cat wheels and a bespoke outside cat tree. Indoors they have human company 24/7 and the company of other cats. we have cat trees, toys, rabbit furs and reindeer hide to sleep in, scratching posts and cat tv.
We also feed our cats a premium diet of commercially prepared raw food, real dried treats, some kibble, and water from ceramic fountains.
All our cats and kittens are regularly wormed and flea’d with Nexgard as prescribed by a vet.
We are told we are REALLY good at giving regular consistent feedback and updates about how your chosen kitten is doing. I absolutely love sending you videos of them playing, interacting, sleeping and eating whilst they are with us.
Check out our Kitten pages and News pages and our social media. We are listed on the Abyssinian Cat Club pages too.
We dont tend to keep waiting lists because I dont find they work well. Kittens are easy to home at the time they are available and people’s personal circumstances change.
Yes – we do accept non – refundable deposits to reserve a kitten. However- our kittens are never available to reserve until they are approx 9 weeks old and have had a vet check, first immunisation and their microchip done. We DO NOT attempt to push or rush this because we want healthy kittens to be homed . The best owners are considerate ones and will put the cat’s needs first.
Please do not ask us to home a kitten with you before it is ready to go. This would normally be around 12-16 weeks depending on whether we are neutering the kitten or not. Abyssinians ARE NOT READY at 8 weeks.
If we decide we are neutering the kitten before he/she leaves us- this decision rests with us and I am extremely firm on this.
Our kittens leave us with
This is a great offer. Other than keeping up with the flea and worming treatment- your healthy kitten would not need a planned routine vet appointment for another year when the Vax Booster is due.
When you check out your prices etc – do you due diligence and ensure you are comparing LIKE for LIKE. May very well be similar kittens but offering very different experiences!
I’ve checked out your kittens BUT….. is a great question for me to answer. ! Dont be shy!
So I may or may not have the right kitten available for you or there maybe something I do that you dont like!
The great news is that I have broad shoulders 🙂 I also believe that you dont have to put out someone else’s light in order to make yourself shine brighter either.
There are fantastic breeders out there in the GCCF. Check out the list of breeders in the Abyssinian Cat Club. Try there FIRST.
Secondly I would also ask you to consider taking in a retired ex breeding cat or a rescue Abyssinian. They do come up from time to time. The welfare officer for the Abyssinian Cat Club can be emailed on [email protected]
Also go to cat shows and look out for the owners and have a chat with them too.
We made a decision to ask for a non-refundable deposit to cover for the cost of re-advertising and food/care until we find a new owner.
We do not agree with Pets4Homes current suggestion of £300. This is too much for what we need it to cover.
I will send you confirmation we have received your deposit and I will check BEFORE you pay it – that you understand it is NON REFUNDABLE.
Sadly no. We are not set up to run as a cattery. This is our home and we also enjoy it from time to time WITHOUT kittens! We love focusing on our Queens when they have that 1-2-1 time with us.
If you have decided to take on the responsibility of a kitten then you will need to fit in with the expected dates of when they are ready to leave. we would like to think we are reasonable over this!
Excuses like vacations, job commitments, going abroad to see family, problems with collection dates and transport etc will not manipulate us to keep your kitten for longer than was originally discussed.
