The Yorkshire Cat Show and the Cumberland Cat Show are jointly held together at The Dome Leisure Centre in Doncaster every November.
Its the second largest cat show after the Supreme……its my favourite. It was my first show where I learnt how the process of entering, vetting in, putting the show whites together goes. Thanks to the Abyssinian Breeders for all their support that year x
This year, I had entered but also put one in for the Exhibit pens. “Come and Meet the Breeders” focused on Abyssinians. Afew of us were utterly enthused y this seeing it as a fantastic opportunity to show how amazing this breed is.
I seriously could not have asked for more…….
Enviable collaboration between the Abyssinian Breeders, Show owners, and organisers resulted in:
Double pens for various different colours of Abyssinians including sorrel, chocolate, lilac, usual and silver.
Decorated pens – thanks Rebecca for loaning me those!
A collection of kittens and adults for the public to see.
An Abyssinian lead trained in two weeks who was walked round catching the public’s eye at how well they tolerate and enjoy going for a wander!
The chance to stroke an Abyssinian and talk to breeders about their passion.
A tiktok live which attracted 18.2K likes focusing on Abyssinians and promoting the breeders and the breed. We also included Nathan Gilbert and Lynda Ashmore who spoke so positively regarding Abyssinians. Nathan’s Abyssinian won Best Exhibit in the Supreme recently. This lovey girl was bred by Lillian and Mike Eames who also exhibited their two available kittens as well. Lynda organised the Doncaster show and too many hats to mention!
The traders in the foyer outside also engaged with the tiktok live too and promoted their products including Maggie who is a retired breeder of Abyssinians.
At the end of the show – I really felt we had done a superb job between us to get out there that message that Abyssinians are the “connoisseur of cats”
And of course………I had entered my lilac abyssinian kitten who won several first places including BEST OF VARIETY……..
I was BEAMING!!!!
